Wal-Mart Shopping 101

Wal-Mart is a very popular store in the United States, and most of us live very close to one. Heck, in Hanover, there are TWO Wal-Marts. From a savings perspective, that means you have TWICE as many opportunities to save at Wal-Mart.

As always, familiarize yourself with the Coupon Policy. Wal-Mart's coupon policy is very clear, however, not all cashiers/CSM's are as well-versed in regards to the newest coupon policy. In case a dispute comes up between you and a cashier, kindly ask to speak to a Customer Service Manager. Remember, don't get angry or upset. If the CSM is not available or cannot help you with your problem, call the customer service line. Their number is 1-800-WALMART (1-800-925-6278).

Wal-Mart price matches against competitor sales, so be sure you bring in the flier for the item that you want to price-match. While their price match policy states that they do not require customers to bring the flier, I can imagine it would be MUCH easier on both you and the cashier if you bring a copy of the ad. (See policy)

Price-matching is a great way to save money at one place, rather than having to go to separate stores to get separate deals. The one downside I see to Wal-Mart shopping is that they do not double coupons, nor do they offer coupons back at the end of your deals (No Register Rewards, Extra Care Bucks, or +UP Rewards).

So, can I use a store coupon at Wal-Mart?

This is a tricky question. Wal-Mart does not release their own coupons, and Wal-Mart does not specify which stores/which coupons they will accept. However, the policy is clear on one thing- that you can use store coupons. However, corporate offices typically leave the final decision up the manager at that specific store. My advice? Before you plan on using store coupon at Wal-Mart, go and talk to someone at the customer service desk.

I am planning on going to ask the customer service reps at the Wal-Marts in Hanover, so I will post back when I get a response.

Wal-Mart shopping is a blog unto itself, so I will not frequently highlight Wal-Mart deals on this blog. I will probably highlight the free/cheap items, and some awesome deals you can find as I come across them. For more information on shopping at Wal-Mart, check out: I Heart the Mart.

As always, if you have any questions about Wal-Mart shopping, feel free to comment or send me an email!
